Background:
Challney High School for Girls is an 11-16 comprehensive community school with a long and valued history. The school is based on one site, which houses girls from a range of ethnic, faith and cultural backgrounds. The school has made significant investment in information technology and all pupils have access to ICT facilities both within and beyond the school day. The school has its own swimming pool. In addition to the main curriculum, pupils are encouraged to participate in a variety of clubs and activities, which take place during lunchtime, after-school and very occasionally at weekends. The school was awarded Beacon status by the Department for Education and Skills in June 2001. It has also achieved DfES achievement award (2003). The school aims to provide an environment in which respect, opportunity and achievement can flourish.
